Although Rome is known for it’s strong faith, there are plenty of lively places to frequent in the city for the LGBTQ community! The most famous ‘soho-esque’ place in Rome is Via di San Giovanni in Laterano, also known as ‘Gay Street.’ With all its fabulous, colorful flags hanging in front of its bars, you’ll easily find this hotspot near the Colosseum. The most popular bar on the street is called ‘Coming Out.’
Trastevere, having always been the home for minorities since the ancient Roman times, is also a great place to hang out. We suggest visiting: ‘Beige,’ ‘Freni e Frizoni,’ ‘G BAR,’ ‘Colors Club’ and more. However, Trastevere has increasingly become a place more accommodated to the straight community (if you’re looking to meet someone special!)
For nightclubs that are primarily catered to the LGBTQ community, we suggest ‘Muccassassina’ at Qube nightclub and GIAM. 'Muccassassina' is a flamboyant disco party with three floors of different music and different ambiances! There are often drag queen dancers and other exciting performances to liven the spirit. GIAM is centrally located in Garbatella/Ostiense where there are also other Gay bars and discos in the area if you wanted to club-hop. GIAM has a mix of classic pop as well as contemporary and techno music. Nearly any night of the week you’re sure to find a fun crowd!
